Gamstop reports surge in self-exclusion among younger bettors

UK national self-exclusion register Gamstop Online, reported a 40% increase in registrations from consumers aged 16-24, in H2 of 2025.

In the six months to 31 December 2025, Gamstop Online recorded 58,675 new registrations, an average of 319 per day. Players aged 16-24 accounted for 29% of new sign-ups during the period.

By the end of 2025, a total of 562,000 players had registered with the service. Those who sign up are presented with several options as to how long they want to self-exclude: six months, one year or five years.

Incidentally, the six-month exclusion was most popular among players aged 16-24, with 38% selecting this option. However, among all users, the five-year option was most popular with 47% of players selecting this exclusion period.

Gamstop exclusion auto-renewal take-up increases

December 2025 also marked one year since Gamstop Online introduced a new ‘five years with auto-renewal’ exclusion. This, the service said, provides the equivalent of a lifetime block, with exclusion only ending when a user ‘opts out of auto-renewal’.

According to Gamstop Online, take-up of the auto-renewal option has increased steadily. In December 2025, the auto‑renewal option was selected by over 50% of consumers choosing a minimum five-year exclusion, the first time such a level was hit since its introduction 12 months prior.

“The continued year-on-year growth in registrations highlights the ongoing and increasing need for effective self-exclusion tools,” said Fiona Palmer, CEO of Gamstop Group. “The rise in take-up of our auto-renewal option, in particular, shows that many consumers are seeking longer-term support and recognise the value of self-exclusion in helping them manage their gambling.”

Gamstop rebrands MOSES scheme

In other news, Gamstop has formally integrated the Multi Operator Self-Exclusion Scheme for Betting Shops (MOSES) under its umbrella.

The scheme has been rebranded as Gamstop Betting Shops, and, according to Gamstop, will connect more closely with online self-exclusion. Gamstop was asked to take over the MOSES scheme in 2023.

Previously, registration for Gamstop Betting Shops was only available via telephone. However, with the restructure, consumers will be able to register online. Some 9,000 people are currently registered with the land-based scheme.

“Our brand refresh reflects the evolution of Gamstop and will deliver clarity, consistency and accessibility while preserving the trust and integrity built over the last eight years since we launched,” Palmer said.
